Albums of 1969

In a post yesterday, I referenced the fortieth anniversary of Tommy, The Who's classic rock opera album which was released in 1969. And, in considering other album releases of that year, it's hard to find another 12 months where so many great discs were released.

Not only were great albums issued in '69, but many all-time great groups put out multiple releases during the year. Consider the following list of albums which would make any classic rock devotee's all-time greats list:

Abbey Road, The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II
Tommy, The Who
Green River, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Willy and the Poor Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Bayou Country, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Crosby, Stills and Nash
Blind Faith
Let It Bleed, The Rolling Stones
Stand, Sly and the Family Stone
In a Silent Way, Miles Davis
The Band
Nashville Skyline, Bob Dylan
Santana

So, in addition to all of the great albums, we were also introduced to classic rock titans like Zeppelin, Santana, Blind Faith, The Band and CSN, all of whom made their recording debuts in 1969.

Forty years ago was a pretty important year in the history of rock-and-roll.
